IT relocation

Those people that have been involved in the process of moving office will be very aware of how much planning and effort is required if you wish to minimise the effect on the business. If you are one of those people that have already gone through the process and simply want a quote for subcontracting out the IT part of the move then please give us a call and we will be happy to come out for a free consultation and subsequently provide you with a quote for the job.  For those people that haven't been exposed to the joys of moving office please read on as this page will act as pointer for things that you need to consider and pitfalls you will likely face.

Reasons to subcontract the IT move to Hands-On Computers

Objections we have encountered and our responses

  1. The in house IT person will deal with it after all we pay him to look after our IT
  2. The in-house IT person could co ordinate the moving of the IT but if this is not something they have done before can they really be expected to have the experience to make sure that every aspect is covered? Asking your IT person to physically move all the equipment will take too long unless they have some assistance. You can either ask your staff to help out or get the removal people to do it

Would you really want you members of staff doing the physical moving of the equipment?

    • What if they dropped their computer, would you bill them for the replacement and setting up of a new machine?
    • What if one of them hurt their back while picking their printer or monitor up? Can you afford the lawsuit or sick leave?

  3. Why not let the normal removals people do it?
  4. In reality you would need to ask the removal company to move the IT equipment and in doing this you have to ask the following questions:-

    • Do they want to?
    • Are they able to offer the technical guarantees that we can?
    • Can they offer the additional technical services that come as part of our package?

To save you from asking these questions we have already done so and have met with a number of removals companies.  In all cases the answer has been that they are not in a position to deal with the IT and would only be able to move a pre packed IT crate with their insurance only covering physical damage in the event of a crate being dropped by one of their operatives but this would only cover the cost of the physical replacement and not the time required to setup the new machine or the disruption that this will cause.

The end result of these meetings is that we have formed relationships with a number of companies which means if they come across a company that would like their IT moved as well as the rest of the office furniture they are now able to partner with us and handle the complete job.

The same is also true in reverse as if we meet with a company that has not chosen a moving company we would be happy to recommend a well respected removals company which would have the added benefit that you know we will be talking to each other and thus there won’t be the usual conflict of two separate companies both fixated on their own needs with no concern for anyone else.

  5. Can’t justify the cost
  6. This objection comes down to a risk assessment with the following factors to consider:

    • What is the real cost of moving the equipment ourselves such as overtime, van hire or payments to the removal company. By subtracting these figures from our quote you will come up with the real cost of our service.
    • How much would we lose in the event of down time caused by a problem during the move process?
    • How much would it cost if a member of staff injured themselves and couldn’t work or worse still sued us?
