Turnkey IT solutions
What is a turnkey solution?
From our perspective a turnkey solution is any IT project that requires multiple components and or disciplines and that can’t simply be bought off the shelf. A good example of a turnkey project is when a company requires a new server or is looking to upgrade their current server. In this scenario the equipment needs to be purchased and then the server would need to be pre configured before being installed and integrated into the existing network with as little disruption as possible.
A smaller example of a turnkey project could be the supply and installation of a new printer which is very simple and could easily be done by someone that has only a very basic knowledge of computers but why divert your staff from doing what they are paid to do?
Why should I go for a turnkey solution when on paper it looks more expensive?
The alternative to a turnkey solution is when you or one of your staff members decides to carry out some elements of a job and then subcontract the bits that you either don't wish to do or you don't have the skills for. This is not necessarily a bad thing but experience has shown that you can often end up spending more money.
A good example of times when a turnkey solution is better than taking part of the job on yourselves is when the customer buys a piece of equipment such as computer from the internet because it is cheaper only to find that when an engineer comes to install it there is a problem and it needs to be sent back. Under these circumstances you would not only have the hassle of having to send the equipment back but you would also have to pay for the time the engineer spent onsite plus their time to come back out and do the job again.
With a turnkey solution should the equipment have a problem then it would be our responsibility to swap it out (which is going to be much quicker as we will advance replace and deal with the supplier in our own time) and you would not be charged for any of the engineers original time onsite.
